Savannah is a coastal city located in Georgia and is separated from South Carolina by the Savannah River. It’s known for manicured parks, horse-drawn carriages and antebellum architecture. Its historic district is filled with cobblestoned squares and parks such as Forsyth Park shaded by oak trees covered with Spanish moss. At the centre of this picturesque district is the landmark, Gothic-Revival Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.
Savannah Georgia is a true pedestrian friendly city with hundreds of years of history within footsteps of fabulous hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and Vacation Rentals. Its beauty is magically enhanced by the quaint cobblestone streets, majestic architecture, and solemn historical gravesites of past military and civilian leaders all resting peacefully under its sprawling emerald canopy.
Savannah’s restaurants are as diverse and unique as its population with culinary surprises awaiting around every corner. Explore Savannah on your own or select from the many Savannah tours that will leave you with a fond and lasting memory of this historic coastal city.
Dating to 1819, the Owen-Thomas House contains a notable decorative arts collection, and preserved slave quarters offering a sobering reminder of pre-Civil-War-era history. The First African Baptist Church, founded in 1788, is one of the oldest African American churches in the U.S. Nearby, the ultramodern museum the Jepson Centre displays contemporary art, while the riverfront is lined with chic cafes and shops. Beyond the historic district, the Southern-Gothic statuary of Bonaventure Cemetery starred in the popular novel and film “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.”
