Day 2 - Montreal - Quebec City

Consistently rated as one of the ‘most liveable cities in the world’ and delightfully situated at the confluence of the St Lawrence and Ottawa rivers, Montréal is the perfect introduction to French-speaking Canada. A guided tour takes in many of its historical and architectural highlights, before we proceed to the equally impressive Québec City and our hotel for the next two nights, the Clarendon Hotel.

Day 3 - Quebec City

UNESCO World Heritage-listed Québec City is the only fortified city in North America, set in spectacular natural surroundings and boasting a perfectly-preserved old town. Our morning guided tour sets the scene, and there follows free time to make your own explorations, discover its French colonial history and culture, and hunt for bargains in its many excellent shops.

Day 4 - Quebec City - Ottawa

We board a coach this morning bound for another strikingly attractive city - the Canadian capital of Ottawa. Once again, its fine architecture and natural setting make for memorable hours of wandering. We have included a short orientation tour with time at leisure to follow. Our hotel for the night is the Lord Elgin.

Day 5 - Ottawa - Toronto

The 1,000 Islands Parkway, following the north shore of the St Lawrence River, and the shoreline of Lake Ontario, comprise scenic sections of our drive from Ottawa to Toronto. This friendly city is sure to charm the visitor and we include an orientation tour, before the remainder of the day is yours to explore - don’t miss the far-reaching views from the observation deck of the CN Tower, over 500m high. Our hotel is the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.

Day 6 - Toronto - Niagara - Toronto

Toronto is ideally located for a full-day excursion to experience one of the great spectacles of nature - Niagara Falls. Picturesque in their parkland setting and awe-inspiring in their power, the Falls are a true icon of world travel, which you may choose to view up close from a Hornblower boat. We return to Toronto in the evening.

Day 7 - Toronto - Banff

The highlights of the east thus explored, we head to Toronto Airport for a flight across central Canada to Calgary. Upon arrival, we transfer to Banff, a wonderful gateway to the Rocky Mountains, where our hotel for three nights is the Ptarmigan Inn.

Day 8 - Banff - Lake Louise - Banff

Our included tour today is to Lake Louise, justly famed for its beauty - a turquoise jewel encircled with snow-capped mountains. The gardens of the Chateau present the ideal vantage point of the lake and the Victoria Glacier, which constantly replenishes its waters.

Day 9 - Banff

Often described as the loveliest small town in North America, Banff rewards exploration in its own right. Enjoy a day at leisure here, perhaps to scale neighbouring Sulphur Mountain aboard a gondola for breathtaking views of the Bow Valley.

Day 10 - Banff - Columbia Icefield - Jasper

Our journey continues north through the Rockies by way of the stunning Columbia Icefield. Included in your holiday price is an unforgettable ride on the Ice Explorer (subject to favourable weather conditions). An experienced driver guide shares a wealth of enthralling information about glaciers and icefields as the vehicle negotiates the surface of the ice itself. We then continue beyond forests and jagged peaks to Jasper and our hotel, the Lobstick Lodge.

Day 11 - Jasper

Yet more wondrous sights await on a full-day sightseeing tour of the environs of Jasper, including the intricate limestone gorge of Maligne Canyon, Medicine Lake (named for the local tribespeople’s beliefs that the waters had special healing powers) and the outstandingly beautiful Maligne Lake, one of the most photographed natural attractions in the world. This evening we enjoy an included dinner with an interpretative talk.

Day 12 - Jasper - Sun Peaks

Another spectacular drive through regions of wild and rugged beauty dotted with aquamarine lakes and soaring mountains delivers us to the prestigious resort town of Sun Peaks and our hotel, the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel or Coast Sundance Lodge.

Day 13 - Sun Peaks - Vancouver

The final leg of our epic journey westwards takes us through ever-changing scenery, to Vancouver, perhaps Canada’s most entrancing city. Take some time to relax at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel on this, the first of three nights.

Day 14 - Vancouver

Sophisticated and spectacular, set between Grouse Mountain and the glittering waters of the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver mesmerises. After an orientation tour of its many highlights, you are invited to make your own discoveries. Maybe take an optional excursion to ride a gondola to the summit of Grouse Mountain, walk the Capilano Suspension Bridge and enjoy afternoon tea, for a superb day out.
