Luray Experiences

Luray is a town in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. It’s known for Luray Caverns, a vast underground cave system with walkways, unusual rock formations and the Great Stalacpipe Organ, which makes the stalactites “sing.”

Below is a small selection of the tours we can organise for you when you have booked your USA holiday with us and are visiting Luray.

Luray Caverns is the largest and most popular caverns in Eastern America. Baseball has one. So does rock and roll. And after millions of years, geologists have one, too. Discover it for yourself. Luray is proud to offer tours along well-lighted, paved walkways that lead visitors through cathedral-sized rooms with ceilings 10-stories high, towering stone formations, and natural wonders at every turn. Come visit Luray Caverns and discover a world unto itself.

Unravel the mystery of the largest hedge maze in the Mid-Atlantic states – a one acre ornamental garden at Luray Caverns. Over 1500 Evergreen hedges create a half-mile pathway that diverges at over 40 points. Challengers must navigate their way through twists and turns while searching for hidden goals on a mission to discover the secret of the maze.

This is your invitation to strap on a harness, step out of your comfort zone, and soar to new heights. Welcome to the Rope Adventure Park. Take on different levels of ropes course challenges. The Two Levels option enables participants to grow at an individual or team level, exploring risk, self-discovery, communication, problem-solving, and coaching.

The Low Ropes Course

Push yourself, but not too far. Presents unending opportunities for self-discovery and growth. The Little Adventurer course is closer to the ground and perfect for your youngest.

The High Ropes Course

Push yourself to the limit. Challenges participants to expand their comfort zones — sometimes dramatically. Each moment is rich with discoveries, whether a person is climbing, supporting “on belay,” or finding an effective way to encourage a companion.

Rope Adventure Park Highlights

  • The park incorporates a sophisticated safety system using ropes
  • Tickets available for purchase on-site.
  • The park is available to host special occasions and promote team-building and leadership skills.

Car lover? History lover? Or just someone who loves beautifully sculpted sheet metal? This museum is for you: The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum at Luray Caverns. Feast your eyes on the stunning centerpiece of the collection, an 1897 Mercedes-Benz, one of the oldest cars in the country still in operating condition. Check out the precursor to the Chevy Volt, the 1908 Baker Electric. And bask in the indulgent 1925 Rolls Royce, associated with the silent film star, Rudolph Valentino.

The award-winning Luray-Hawksbill Greenway invites users to enjoy the abundant beauty and wildlife of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley in a unique urban setting. With two miles of trails, as well as open spaces and scenic rest areas, the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway is a great place to enjoy some peace and quiet, watch the wildlife along the creek or go for a walk or jog. The Ruffner Plaza on the Greenway is the center of many music festivals and other local activities.

More than 200 species of resident and transient birds are known to use the nearby Shenandoah National Park, and many of them can be found along the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway, which is part of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.Anglers enjoy fly fishing in Hawksbill Creek, which is home to many of the Shenandoah’s 37 fish species, including game fish such as Trout, Smallmouth Bass and Bluegill. Offering Category “A” trout fishing, the creek is stocked throughout the year. Due to the number of walkers, runners, and children who use the Greenway paths, cyclists, in particular, need to use appropriate speeds (high speeds are not permitted on the Greenway) and yield the right of way to all pedestrians.

The Hawksbill Greenway Foundation Highlights

The Shenandoah Heritage Village is a seven-acre re-creation of a small 19th century farming community made up of restored historic buildings, cottage style gardens, and a small vineyard with a scenic mountain backdrop. These endangered historic buildings were given a new life, through relocation and restoration, to help whisk you away to Shenandoah living in the 19th century.

Ranging from pre-contact Native American history to the Roaring 20s, you’ll be amazed at just how rich the history of the Shenandoah Valley is. As you stroll along the paths of the Shenandoah Heritage Village, you’ll notice gardens full of rare heirloom plants, fruit trees, and a small vineyard. Nigella, wallflowers, foxgloves, and sunflowers are just some of the blooms that await. The Stonyman Mining Company Gem Sluice is an interactive lesson in how pioneer prospectors would bring gold and other valuable gems into the world. Gem bags can be purchased in the Museum Gift Shop.
