Now you have booked your VIA Rail holiday aboard the Ocean Route, you may have a few questions before you go. We have put together a helpful guide on what to expect onboard the train.
Travelling onboard the Ocean Route guests should arrive at least 1 hour before departure to check in checked luggage. Check in is at the VIA Rail Ticket counter or the business lounge depending on the station of departure.
Guests travelling in Sleeper Plus are permitted to bring the following luggage onboard:
1 Personal Item
Item that must fit under the seat in front of you (purse, laptop bag, small backpack, etc.)
Max. size: 43 x 33 x 15 cm (17 x 13 x 6 in)
Max. weight: 11.5 kg (25 lb)
1 Carry-on Item
One (1) SMALL bag
Max. size: 53 x 41 x 25 cm (21 x 16 x 10 in)
Max. weight: 11.5 kg (25 lb)
Checked Baggage
Two (2) LARGE baggage
Max. size: 76 x 48 x 30 cm (30 x 19 x 12 in) each
Max. weight: 23 kg (50 lb) each
If any of your bags are overweight you may be subject to additional charges which can be paid locally.

Depending on what time you board the train will determine the level of meal service you will receive.
Onboard all meals are freshly prepared to order and you will be provided with a menu at each meal, with main courses there is three options available one meat dish, fish dish and vegetarian option. VIA Rail is able to cater to dietary requirments it is important you advise us at the time of booking if you have not told your booking agent please tell us well in advance to ensure any requirments can be met.
Alcohol can be purchased onboard the train during meal service.
When travelling in Sleeper Plus class, meals are included in the price of your ticket and served in the dining car*. Meal entitlement is dependent upon your departure time:
Breakfast: 06:30-09:00. No entitlement if departure is at or after 08:00 (local time)
Lunch: 11:00-14:00. No entitlement if departure is at or after 12:30 (local time). (Exception for train 15 passengers departing from Halifax will be entitled to lunch)
Dinner: 17:00-19:00 No entitlement if departure is at or after 18:30 (local time). (Exception for train 14 passengers departing from Montreal and St. Lambert will be entitled to dinner)
